THE CORROSION OF STEEL IN CONCRETE /IN GERMAN/

THE PROCESS OF CORROSION IS DESCRIBED AND CONDITIONS ARE LISTED UNDER WHICH IT OCCURS: INSUFFICIENT BASICITY, DEFECTS DURING CONSTRUCTION; DEFECTIVE GROUTING OF PRESTRESSING DUCTS, INSUFFICIENT COVERING OF CABLES AND REINFORCEMENT WITH CONCRETE, CONCRETE CARBONATION CAUSED BY THE PRESENCE OF CO2 IN WATER, USE OF ALUMINA CEMENT, AND FORMATION OF IRON SULPHIDE. A STUDY IS PRESENTED OF THE INFLUENCE OF CRACKS IN CONCRETE ON THE CORROSION OF REINFORCING STEEL UNDER THE EFFECT OF CHLORIDES, ESPECIALLY CALCIUM CHLORIDE WHICH ACTS AS AN ACCELERATION IN THE DESTRUCTION OF PRESTRESSING STEEL. TENSILE CORROSION IS ALSO INVESTIGATED TOGETHER WITH THE PROPENSITY TO BRITTLENESS CAUSED BY THE PRESENCE OF HYDROGEN. /LCPC/RRL/
