SYSTEMATIC CATALOGUING AND EVALUATION OF PLANT MATERIAL FOR HIGHWAY USE IN GEORGIA

OF SPECIFIC INTEREST WAS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LIST OF OF PLANTS, ESPECIALLY NATIVE KINDS, ADPTABLE FOR ROADSIDE USE. A MASTER LIST INCLUDING 501 PLANTS WAS COMPILED AND A COMPUTER PROGRAM WAS PREPARED TO STORE AND RETRIEVE INFORMATION ON EACH OF THESE PLANTS. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROGRAM WAS EVALUATED FOR THE SELECTION OF PLANT MATERIALS FOR DESIGN PURPOSES. PROPER QUANTITIES OF FERTILIZER ADDED TO BACKFILL MIXTURES FOR PLANTING WERE DETERMINED FOR 3 CLIMATIC ZONES IN THE STATE. PROPAGATION STUDIES WERE MADE FOR SELECTED WOODY PLANTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR PROCEDURES AND MATERIALS. /FHWA/
