A STANDARD TEST PROCEDURE FOR TENSILE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE

AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION FOR THE SELECTION OF A STANDARD TEST PROCEDURE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE IS DESCRIBED. A SERIES OF TESTS WAS CONDUCTED TO STUDY THE VARIOUS FACTORS INFLUENCING THE RESULTS, NAMELY, THE SIZE OF THE SPECIMEN, THE SIZE OF THE PACKING MATERIALS AND THE RATE OF LOADING. BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE FOR THE STANDARDISATION OF THE TESTING PROCEDURE, AND A RELATION HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED BETWEEN THE TENSILE STRENGTH OBTAINED FROM THE SUGGESTED STANDARD TEST, AND THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF BOTH NORMAL WEIGHT AND LIGHT WEIGHT CONCRETES. /RRL/A/
