CULVERT LIFE STUDY

REINFORCED CONCRETE, BITUMINOUS COATED AND UNCOATED GALVANIZED STEEL, ALUMINUM, ASBESTOS CEMENT AND VITRIFIED CLAY CULVERTS WERE SAMPLED. THE EMPHASIZES BEING PLACED ON THE REINFORCED CONCRETE, BITUMINOUS COATED AND UNCOATED GALVANIZED STEEL, AND ALUMINUM. THE MAIN PARAMETERS OF THE STUDY BEING TO DETERMINE THE LIFE EXPECTANCY, IN MAINE, OF THE AFOREMENTIONED DIFFERENT TYPES OF CULVERTS AND HOW VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS EFFECT THE RATE OF DETERIORATION FOR THESE DIFFERENT TYPES. THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS WHICH WERE MEASURED WERE: RESISTIVITY, PH OF THE WATER, AND VELOCITY OF STREAM (WHERE APPLICABLE). OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS WERE NOTED, ALTHOUGH NO MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE. THE REPORT IS BASED COMPLETELY ON FIELD OBSERVATION. /MAINE DOT/
