SALT BRINE RUNOFF CONTROL AT STOCKPILE SITES

SINCE BULK SALT PILES ARE COVERED ALL YEAR AROUND IN MINNESOTA THE MAJOR SOURCE OF SALT BRINE RUNOFF IS FROM WINTER SAND PILES; THIS PROBLEM IS GREATEST DURING THE HIGH PRECIPITATION MONTHS, MARCH THROUGH NOVEMBER. METHODS OF ABATING POLLUTION, BOTH VISUAL AND CHEMICAL, WHICH CLIMINATE THE CAUSE OF BRINE FORMATION ARE CHEAPER, MORE EASILY IMPLEMENTED, AND MORE EFFECTIVE THAN ANY METHOD OF COLLECTING AND DISPOSING OF THE BRINE AFTER IT IS FORMED.
