A COMPARISON OF HAND AND MACHINE METHODS OF SPREADING CEMENT FOR MIX-IN-PLACE SOIL STABILIZATION

IN A STUDY ON UNIFORMITY OF SPREAD OF CEMENT CONDUCTED AT THE ROAD RESEARCH LAB., HARMONDSWORTH, SPREADING WAS DONE BY HAND METHODS AND BY A CEMENT SPREADER MANUFACTURED IN THE UNITED STATES. SAMPLES TAKEN FROM THE 1-FT. SQ. AREAS SHOWED THE WEIGHT OF CEMENT PER SQ FT. HAD COEFFICIENTS OF VARIATION OF ABOUT 20% FOR BOTH METHODS, BUT IT IS CONSIDERED THAT IN PRACTICE MACHINE SPREADING IS LIKELY TO GIVE MORE UNIFORM RESULTS.
