MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF CONCRETE

A SUMMARY IS GIVEN OF COMPRESSION TESTS CONDUCTED ON APPROXIMATELY 3,500 6 X 12 INCH CYLINDERS. THE RELATION BETWEEN THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY AND STRENGTH OF CONCRETE IS STUDIED FOR THE FOLLOWING VARIABLES: SIZE AND GRADING OF AGGREGATE, KIND OF AGGREGATE, QUANTITY OF CEMENT, CONSISTENCY OF CONCRETE, AGE AT TEST, TIME OF MIXING, AND CURING CONDITIONS OF CONCRETE. THE TESTS SHOW THAT THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY IS AFFECTED BY THESE VARIABLES IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO THE STRENGTH.
