QUALITY CONTROL OF READY-MIXED CONCRETE

PROBLEMS INVOLVED IN THE QUALITY CONTROL OF READY-MIXED CONCRETE ARE DISCUSSED. DESIRED PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE, IN THE HARDENED STATE, INCLUDE COMPRESSION STRENGTH, WATER TIGHTNESS, DURABILITY, VOLUME STABILITY AND GOOD ABRASION RESISTANCE. WORKABILITY IS A PRIME FACTOR THAT INFLUENCES THE DESIRED PROPERTIES OF THE HARDENED PRODUCT. IT IS THE QUALITY THAT MAKES POSSIBLE THE MIXING, THE HANDLING, THE TRANSPORTATION, AND THE PLACING OF CONCRETE WITH A MINIMUM LOSS OF HOMOGENEITY, WHICH IS OF CAPITAL IMPORTANCE IN THE ULTIMATE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CONCRETE PRODUCED. THE FOLLOWING FACTORS ARE DISCUSSED: STRENGTH, AGGREGATES, AGGREGATE GRADATION, FINENESS MODULUS AND COARSE AGGREGATES.
