NEW CEMENT FORMULATION REDUCES EARLY SHRINKAGE IN CONCRETE

A TRADE-NAMED MATERIAL IS BEING SOLD AS FIVE STAR IN PREMIXED PACKAGES FOR GROUTING AND PATCHING AND AS SEACON CEMENT WHEN SOLD ALONE FOR INCLUSION IN BULK CEMENT. IT IS A CHEMICALLY INERT AGGREGATE THAT CAN BE INCLUDED IN PORTLAND CEMENT GROUTS, CONCRETE PATCHING PRODUCTS AND BULK CEMENT. PRODUCERS CLAIM THAT NOW, FOR THE FIRST TIME, WITHOUT THE USE OF ALUMINUM, IRON OR CHEMICAL THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY CAN PRODUCE CEMENT PRODUCTS THAT WILL EXPAND FROM THE FIRST WETTING, STOP EXPANDING BEFORE FINAL SET, AND NEVER SHRINK BELOW THEIR INITIAL MIXING VOLUME. THE MATERIAL PROVIDES A FAST SOUND BOND WITH OLD CONCRETE, HAS GREATER STRENGTH THAN OTHER COMPARABLE MATERIALS, CAN PROVIDE HIGHWAY PATCHES THAT CAN CARRY TRAFFIC AN HOUR AFTER PLACEMENT AND REQUIRE NO SPECIAL HANDLING STORING OR CURING METHODS. SHRINKAGE TESTS ARE DESCRIBED. THE MATERIAL DOES NOT CHANGE THE COLOR OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT. CLAIMS FOR THE STRENGTH OF GROUTS USING THE AGGREGATE ARE IMPRESSIVE.
