INVESTIGATION OF PORTLAND CEMENT CLINKER WITH THE MICRO- PROBE

THE MICRO-PROBE AND ITS APPLICATION ARE DESCRIBED. SIX DIFFERENT GRADES OF PORTLAND CEMENT CLINKER WERE INVESTIGATED. THE MEASUREMENTS PERFORMED GIVE RELATIVE VALUES. THE POSSIBILITY OF PERFORMING ABSOLUTE MEASUREMENTS IS DISCUSSED. DIFFERENCES IN THE ALUMINA CONTENT OF ALITE OF THE VARIOUS CLINKER SPECIMENS WERE DEMONSTRATED. POTASSIUM WAS FOUND IN THE MICROPORES AS PURE POTASSIUM SULPHATE. POTASSIUM WAS ALSO PRESENT, IN DIFFERENT PROPORTIONS IN THE BELITE AND IN THE INTERSTITIAL MATTER. DESPITE THE ALMOST EQUAL OVERALL CONTENT OF MAGNESIUM OXIDE, THE MAGNESIUM CONTENT OF THE ALITE AND OF THE INTERSTITIAL MATTER OF THE TWO SPECIMENS UNDER INVESTIGATION SHOWED CONSIDERABLE DIFFERENCES. /AUTHOR/
