STUDIES ON THE PERMEABILITY OF CONCRETE

THOUGH THE OUT PUT METHOD HAS BEEN GENERALLY USED FOR TESTING THE PERMEABILITY OF CONCRETE, IN THE CASE OF CONCRETE WITH COMPARATIVELY HIGH DENSITY, IT NOT ONLY REQUIRES A LONG PERIOD OF TIME TO PERFORM THE TESTS, BUT IT IS OFTEN IMPOSSIBLE TO MEASURE ANY OUTFLOW OF WATER. THE AUTHOR THUS MADE A STUDY OF A METHOD IN WHICH THE PART OF BAROMETER OF PERMEABILITY IS PLAYED BY DIFFUSION COEFFICIENT, OBTAINED FROM THE RELATION BETWEEN THE AVERAGE DEPTH OF PENETRATION OF WATER FORCED UNDER PRESSURE INTO CONCRETE AND THE HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, AND THE PERIOD OF TIME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. THE RELIABILITY OF THIS METHOD WAS INVESTIGATED AND IT WAS ESTABLISHED THAT EVEN WITH CONCRETE OF ADVANCED AGE, TESTS COULD BE COMPLETED WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WITH COMPARATIVELY LITTLE ERROR IN TEST RESULTS AND THAT IT WAS A SATISFACTORY METHOD FOR TESTING PERMEABILITY OF CONCRETE. THE METHOD OF PENETRATION DEPTH TEST AND RESULTS OF PERMEABILITY TEST OF CONCRETE PERFORMED BY THIS METHOD ARE GIVEN IN THIS PAPER. /AUTHOR/
