GAP GRADED CONCRETE - PART III - DESIGN OF GAP GRADED CEMENT CONCRETE MIXES WITH POOR GRADINGS OF SAND USING ROUNDED AGGREGATES

THE PAPER IS THE THIRD AND FINAL IN THE SERIES REPORTED BY THE C.R.R.I. ON GAP GRADED CONCRETE, THE FIRST TWO HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED IN THE INDIAN ROADS CONGRESS JOURNALS 1, 2. THE PURPOSE OF THE PRESENT STUDY HAS BEEN TO DESIGN ECONOMICAL CEMENT CONCRETE MIXES ON PRINCIPLES OF GAP GRADATION, USING POOR GRADINGS OF SAND AND ROUNDED COARSE AGGREGATES. THE RESULTS CONFIRMED THE EFFICACY OF SAND-REDUCTION FACTOR SUGGESTED BY BAKER IN THE TROWEL TEST. CERTAIN ASPECTS OF SEGREGATION IN GAP GRADED MIXES AND THE ECONOMICS OF THE USE OF LOCALLY AVAILABLE, POORLY GRADED SANDS IN MAKING CEMENT CONCRETE MIXES BY THE APPLICATION OF THE GAP GRADATION TECHNIQUE HAVE ALSO BEEN STUDIED. /AUTHOR/
