THE REPORT CONTAINS THE RESULTS OF AN ANALYSIS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF THE PROPOSED RELOCATION OF A SIXTEEN MILE SEGMENT OF T.H. 61 BETWEEN RED WING AND A POINT SEVERAL MILES SOUTH OF HASTINGS. PRELIMINARY PLANNING STUDIES MADE OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL YEARS AND INCLUDING TWO PUBLIC HEARINGS RESULTED IN THE SELECTION OF A ROUTE BY THE MINNESOTA HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT. THREE OTHER ROUTES WERE CONSIDERED. SELECTION OF THE ROUTE WAS BASED ON MANY FACTORS, ONE OF WHICH WAS TOTAL ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS. THE REPORT DISCUSSES THE EFFECTS OF THE ROUTE ON RURAL LIFE, AESTHETICS, NATURAL RESOURCES, RECREATION, WILDLIFE HABITAT, AND HISTORICAL AND ARCHEOLOGICAL FEATURES. IT ALSO DISCUSSES THE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF THE ALTERNATE ROUTES INCLUDED IN THE CORRIDOR STUDY. /AUTHOR/
