LABORATORY FREEZING-AND-THAWING TESTS OF CONCRETE

TESTS PERFORMED IN ORDER TO SELECT A COMBINATION OF AGGREGATE AND CEMENT THAT WOULD YIELD CONCRETE OF GOOD RESISTANCE TO RAPID FREEZING-AND-THAWING IN THE LABORATORY ARE DESCRIBED. ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF CALCULATING THE RESULTS OF SUCH TESTS ARE GIVEN AND THE DIFFERENCES ARE INDICATED. THE DIFFERENCES IN RESULTS FROM TESTS OF PRESUMABLY SIMILAR CONCRETE SPECIMENS ARE REGARDED AS HAVING BEEN CAUSED BY DIFFERENCES IN THE CEMEMTS USED RATHER THAN DIFFERENCES IN THE AGGREGATES, EVEN THOUGH DIFFERENCES IN THE AGGREGATES WERE DETECTED. /RRL/A/
