CORROSION RISKS AND PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION OF PRESTRESSED STEELS BY MEANS OF PAINT WITH A SYNTHETIC RESIN BASE

CAUSES OF THE DEFECTS IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE WORK THROUGH CORROSION OF THE STEEL REINFORCEMENT HAVE BEEN ANALYZED AND A SOLUTION TO PREVENT SUCH AN OCCURRENCE HAS BEEN SUGGESTED. THE REMEDY SUGGESTED IS THE PROTECTION OF THE BY PAINTS WITH AN EPOXY RESIN BASE, EVEN IF THE RISK OF FAILURE INCREASES WITH STRESS AND THE GRADES OF STEEL HAVE NOT THE SAME CORROSION RESISTANCE UNDER TENSION. IT WAS CONSIDERED CONTRARY TO THE SAFETY OF THE WORK TO REDUCE THE STRESS RATE AT PRESENT IMPOSED ON PRESTRESSING STEELS. THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF ATTACK ON STEEL /BAD QUALITY CONCRETE INSUFFICIENT COVERING, PRESENCE OF AGGRESSIVE ELEMENTS DIFFICULTY OF INJECTION/ BY CORROSION IN ANY FORM /ANODIC DISSOLUTION, PITTING, CRACKING/ WERE JUSTIFICATIONS FOR THE NEED TO PROTECT THE STEEL WITH A TOP COATING. THE PROPERTIES OF THE COATING WERE INDICATED.
