THE PRIMARY FACTOR IN THE DESTRUCTION OF CONCRETE BY FROST ACTION

IT IS EXPERIMENTALLY SHOWN THAT, FOR CONCRETE SUBJECTED TO THE ACTION OF FROST, THE HYDROSTATIC PRESSURES DEVELOPED WHEN THE WATER FREEZES, CONSTITUTE THE SOLE FACTOR OF DESTRUCTION, AND NOT THE DIFFERENCES IN THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENTS BETWEEN THE HYDRATED CEMENT COMPOSITION AND THE COATED MATERIALS. /LCPC/A/RRL/
