CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT OF VISCOSITY TEMPERATURE BEHAVIOR

AN ANALYSIS IS ADVANCED FOR AN ANNULAR VISCOMETER WHICH MAY BE USED AT CONSTANT TEMPERATURE OR AT CONDITIONS OF VARYING TEMPERATURE. AT VARYING TEMPERATURE, THE VARIATION IN VISCOSITY MAY BE CALCULATED. THIS RELATIONSHIP IS READILY DEMONSTRATED USING THE RING-AND-BALL TEST FOR AN EXAMPLE. THE RING-AND-BALL TEST FOR SOFTENING POINT MAY BE CONSIDERED TO HAVE AN ANALOGY WITH THE VISCOUS SETTLING OF A SPHERE. IN THIS WAY IT IS SHOWN THAT THE COMBINATION OF SOFTENING-POINT TEMPERATURE AND REFERENCE VISCOSITY CAN BE ADOPTED TO YIELD A MEASURE OF THE VISCOSITY TEMPERATURE SUSCEPTIBILITY. /JM/
