DUSTLESS MIXING PLANTS FOR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES /IN GERMAN/

A PROCESS IS PRESENTED FOR ELIMINATING THE EMISSION OF DUST IN ASPHALT MIXING PLANTS IN GERMANY TO COMPLY WITH THE VERY STRICT AIR POLLUTION REGULATIONS. THE PROCESS INVOLVES THE USE OF AGGREGATES IN THEIR NATURAL DAMP STATE, FOR WHICH REASON NO DUST IS GENERATED. A MOISTURE METER IS USED TO ADJUST THE QUANTITY OF AGGREGATES TO THEIR DRY WEIGHTS. HOT ASPHALT, FOGGED BY A JET, AND A NEW SPECIAL BONDING ADDITIVE ADHISTAB ARE ADDED TO THE AGGREGATE IN AN IMPELLER MIXER. AFTER THE MIXING CYCLE, THE MATERIAL IS DROPPED INTO A ROTARY DRIER, ALSO CALLED ACTIVATOR. THE HEAT BRINGS THE MIX UP TO TEMPERATURE AND CAUSES THE ADDITIVE TO ACTIVATE ENERGY ON THE AGGREGATE SURFACES, WHICH DISPLACES THE WATER BY THE ASPHALT. THE PROCESS RENDERS THE MIX MORE PLIABLE, AND THEREFORE EASIER TO PLACE AND FINISH. IT ELIMINATES THE EMISSION OF DUST COMPLETELY, AND TEST SHOW NO DIFFERENCE WHEN COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONALLY MIXED MATERIALS. /AUTHOR/
