LOS PUENTES AKASHI-KAIKYO EN JAPON Y RUNYANG EN CHINA, A CABALLO ENTRE DOS MILENIOS

El artIculo describe dos puentes de tipo colgante, el puente Akashi-Kaikyo en Japon y el puente Runyang en China. El puente Akashi-Kaikyo ha sido puesto en servicio en el ano 1998, y poco antes de terminar su construccion fue sometido a un terremoto de 7,2 richters, sin que se produjesen mas que unos mInimos danos. Se trata del puente mas destacado del pasado milenio, y actualmente es el puente de mayor longitud de vano a nivel mundial, con 1.991 m. El texto contiene una detallada descripcion de sus distintos elementos, cimentaciones, torres, tableros, cables, colgantes, etc. El puente Runyang Sur se esta construyendo actualmente, y sera puesto en servicio en 2005. En ese momento constituira el tercer puente del mundo, en lo que se refiere a la longitud de vano. Seguramente se trata del puente mas importante del comienzo de este nuevo milenio. Ambos puentes, Akashi-Kaikyo y Runyang, constituyen por lo tanto los dos puentes mas importantes del mundo a caballo entre los dos milenios. (A). Resumen en ingles: This article describes two types of suspension bridges, the Akashi-Kaikyo bridge in Japan and the Runyang bridge in China. The Akashi-Kaikyo bridge was opened to traffic in 1998, and just before the construction of the bridge was finished there was an earthquake of 7.2 on the Richter scale, which caused only very minimum damage to the bridge. This is the most important bridge built in the past millennium and at present it is the bridge with the longest span in the world (1,991m). The article includes a detailed description of its different elements, foundations, towers, decks, cables, hangers, etc. The Runyang Sur bridge is currently under construction and will be open to traffic in 2005. At that time it will be the third bridgewith the longest span in the world. It is without a doubt the most important bridge being built at the beginning of this new millennium. The Akashi-Kaikyo and Runyang bridges are therefore the two most important bridges in the world built between these two millennia. (A).
