BRITTLE POINT OF ROAD TAR

AN AUTOMATED VERSION OF THE FRAASS BRITTLE-POINT TEST HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED WHICH GIVES EASIER OPERATION AND BETTER REPRODUCIBILITY THAN EITHER AN EARLIER MODIFICATION OR THE ORIGINAL TEST. THE BRITTLE-POINT DATA FOR ROAD TARS HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO VARY LINEARLY WITH THE EQUIVISCOUS TEMPERATURE OF THE MATERIALS. THE USE OF THE TEST TO STUDY THE MODIFICATION OF ROAD TAR IS ILLUSTRATED, AND IT IS PROPOSED FOR EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECTS OF WEATHERING. /A/RRL/
