THE REPAIR OF BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS WITH CEMENT /IN RUSSIAN/

A DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF A METHOD OF REPAIRING SURFACINGS WHICH CONSISTS IN SPREADING WITH A GRADER A BITUMINOUS MIXTURE AFTER HAVING ADDED 2 TO 5 PERCENT CEMENT AND 4 TO 6 PERCENT WATER. COMPACTION IS CARRIED OUT INITIALLY WITH A 5-T. ROLLER, THEN A 10-T. ROLLER, AND FINALLY A 15-T. PNEUMATIC-TIRED ROLLER. PORTLAND CEMENT WHICH DOES NOT START SETTING UNTIL AT LEAST TWO HOURS AFTER APPLICATION SHOULD BE USED. THE ROAD CAN BE REOPENED TO TRAFFIC 3 TO 7 DAYS AFTER COMPLETION. THE CEMENT ACTS AS A SUPPLENTARY BINDER, AND IMPROVES THE RESISTANCE TO WATER AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE BITUMINOUS MIXTURE. /LCPC/RRL/
