SEAL COATS, ECONOMICAL USAGE

THE ADVANTAGES AND LIMITATIONS TO SEAL COATING ARE DISCUSSED AS WELL AS THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH SEAL COATING SHOULD NOT BE DONE. A METHOD IS GIVEN FOR CALCULATING A SPREAD MODULUS BASED UPON THE GRADATION OF THE COVER AGGREGATE. THIS MODULUS IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE SPREAD OF THE AGGREGATE OBTAINED IN THE LABORATORY. CALIFORNIA WAS SUCCESSFUL IN USING A SEAL COAT PRODUCED BY MIXING AN OPEN-GRADED AGGREGATE WITH FIVE PERCENT ASPHALT IN A PLANT. /AUTHOR/
