TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS IN A BITUMINOUS CONCRETE SURFACING AT A SITE NEAR MELBOURNE

THE TEMPERATURES AT DIFFERENT DEPTHS IN A BITUMINOUS CONCRETE SURFACING WERE RECORDED OVER A 1-YEAR PERIOD AT A TEST SITE NEAR MELBOURNE. THE RECORDED DATA ARE ANALYZED ON THE BASIS OF: (1) ANNUAL VARIATIONS OF TEMPERATURE, (2) SEASONAL VARIATIONS, AND (3) DAILY VARIATIONS. THE MELBOURNE RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED IN SOUTH AFRICA, THE UNITED KINGDOM, AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE APPLICATION OF THE DATA TO CONSIDERATIONS OF THE DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE OF BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS LAID IN THE AREA IS DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
