AN ADAPTATION OF INVERSE GAS-LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY TO ASPHALT OXIDATION STUDIES

INVERSE GAS-LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY /GLC/ WAS RECENTLY DESCRIBED AS A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR CHARACTERIZING ASPHALTS. AN EXTENSION OF THE TECHNIQUE IS DESCRIBED BY WHICH THE OXIDATION CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ASPHALT CAN BE STUDIED BY OXIDATION OF THE ASPHALT IN THE GLC INSTRUMENT, FOLLOWED BY EXAMINATION WITH INVERSE GLC. OXIDATION OF AN ASPHALT WITHIN THE GLC COLUMN OFFERS A NUMBER OF ADVANTAGES OVER CONVENTIONAL METHODS. REFERENCES' T. C. DAVIS, J. C. PETERSEN, W. E. HAINES, ANAL. CHEM. 38, 241, 1966.
