ELECTROCHEMICAL BEHAVIOR OF BITUMINOUS EMULSIONS

TWO ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES WHICH DEPEND ON THE NATURE OF THE DISPERSING LIQUID OF BITUMINOUS EMULSIONS ARE DISCUSSED. MEASUREMENT OF THE PH IS CARRIED OUT WITH A STANDARD PH METER WHOSE REFERENCE ELECTRODE IS PROTECTED BY A LENGTHENING TUBE FILLED WITH A SATURATED POTASSIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION. THE PH OF THE LIQUID OBTAINED AFTER CENTRIFUGATION AND THAT OF THE EMULSION ARE ALMOST THE SAME. THE EMULSION CONDUCTIVITY DEPENDS ON THE PERCENTAGE OF WATER, ACIDITY AND EMULSIFIER. THE VARIATION OF EMULSION CONDUCTIVITY AFTER DILUTION IS STUDIED' WITH PURE WATER, AND WITH THE LIQUID OBTAINED AFTER CENTRIFUGATION. THE ELECTROCHEMICAL MEASUREMENTS MAKE POSSIBLE THE RAPID CONTROL OF THE PERCENTAGE OF BITUMEN AS WELL AS THE PERCENTAGE OF EMULSIFIER AND ACID.
