RESULTS OBTAINED FROM TEST SECTIONS IN 1968 BY THE WORKING PARTY M1 "THE APPLICATION OF THE RUBBER-TYRED ROLLER"

FULL-SCALE EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT FOR STUDYING THE COMPACTION OF THIN LAYERS OF OPEN-TEXTURED AND COARSE DENSE ASPHALTIC CONCRETE ACCORDING TO THE 1967 SPECIFICATIONS OF THE RIJKSWATERSTAAT. THE COMPACTION EFFICIENCY OF THREE-WHEELED, TANDEM ROLLERS AND PNEUMATIC-TYRED ROLLERS WAS COMPARED. AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO DERIVE THE ROLLING CHARACTERISTICS OF PNEUMATIC- TYRED ROLLERS FROM NIJBOER'S ROLLER FACTOR FORMULA. IN ORDER TO ASSESS THE PARAMETERS OF THIS FORMULA THE COMPOSITION OF THE MIX, THE TEMPERATURE DURING THE ROLLING PROCEDURE, THE LAYER THICKNESS, THE ROLLER SPEED, AND THE NUMBER OF PASSES WERE DETERMINED. FROM THE COMPACTION RESULTS THE EFFICIENCY OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ROLLER WAS CALCULATED. /TRRL/
