LIME-CEMENT COMBINATION STABILIZATION

THE EFFECT OF REDUCED COMPACTED DENSITY ON THE DURABILITY OF CEMENT STABILIZED CLAYS, PRE-TREATED WITH LIME, WAS STUDIED, OBSERVING EFFECTS OF THE AASHO-ASTM AND MODIFIED BRITISH FREEZE-THAW TESTS. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY INDICATED THAT THE COMPACTED DRY DENSITIES OF THE LIME-CEMENT SPECIMENS WERE LOWER THAN THOSE STABILIZED WITH ONLY CEMENT. HOWEVER, THIS REDUCTION IN DENSITY DID NOT IMPAIR THE DURABILITY OF CEMENT STABILIZED CLAY SOILS, WHICH WERE PRE-TREATED WITH LIME. MOST OF THE TEST RESULTS INDICATED AN IMPROVED RESISTANCE TO FREEZE THAW. /AUTHOR/
