CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF HEAT EXPANSION IN CONCRETE /IN FRENCH/

A STUDY OF THE LITERATURE ON THE HEAT EXPANSION OF CONCRETE REVEALS THE INFLUENCE OF SEVERAL PARAMETERS: THE MINERALOGICAL NATURE OF THE INGREDIENTS, THE AGE OF THE CONCRETE, RELATIVE HUMIDITY, RELATIVE PROPORTIONS OF CONSTITUENTS. FROM EXPERIMENT IT WAS LEARNED THAT FOR A CONCRETE OF GIVEN PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION AND RELATIVE PROPORTIONS OF CONSTITUENTS, IF THE AGGREGATES ARE OF TWO DIFFERENT MINERALOGICAL NATURES: THE COEFFICIENT OF HEAT EXPANSION OF THE CONCRETE IS A MAXIMUM IF THE LARGER AGGREGATES HAVE THE GREATER COEFFICIENT OF HEAT EXPANSION; AND THE COEFFICIENT OF HEAT EXPANSION OF THE CONCRETE IS A MINIMUM IF THE LARGER AGGREGATES HAVE THE LOWER COEFFICIENT OF HEAT EXPANSION. THE THEORETICAL STUDY OF INTERNAL STRESSES DUE TO VARIATIONS IN THE VOLUME OF THE CONSTITUENTS OF A HETEROGENOUS BODY MADE IT POSSIBLE TO ESTABLISH CALCULATION FORMULAE APPLICABLE TO HEAT SHRINKAGE AND EXPANSION.
