AN INVESTIGATION OF CRACKING IN SLABS SPANNING ONE WAY

THE RESULTS FROM A SERIES OF TESTS ON 6 LARGE AND 13 SMALL CONCRETE SLABS HAVE LED TO THE FORMULATION OF A COMPREHENSIVE HYPOTHESIS WHICH DESCRIBES THE CRACKING PROCESS. THE SLABS WERE TESTED VERTICALLY-A NOVEL TECHNIQUE FACILITATING THE MEASUREMENT OF CRACK WIDTHS. FROM THE RESULTS, FORMULAE WERE DERIVED WHICH ALLOW CRACK WIDTHS AND SPACINGS TO BE COMPUTED. /TRRL/
