MASTIC ASPHALT CONCRETE: "GUSSASPHALT"

THIS REPORT COVERS THE PLACEMENT OF THE FIRST OF TWO MASTIC ASPHALT CONCRETE, OR "GUSSASPHALT," EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS IN PENNSYLVANIA AND DESCRIBES THE SPECIALIZED PAVING EQUIPMENT REQUIRED, NECESSARY MODIFICATIONS TO THE ASPHALT PLANT, AND THE UNCONVENTIONAL METHOD OF PLACEMENT. IT WAS FOUND THAT WHILE THE MASTIC ASPHALT CONCRETE HAS A POTENTIAL FOR A LONG SERVICE LIFE, A HIGHLY SKID-RESISTANT SURFACE, AND LOWER MAINTENANCE COSTS, AT THE SAME TIME, NEW EQUIPMENT AND PAVING METHODS ARE REQUIRED AND SOME INCONVENIENCE TO TRAFFIC MAY BE ENCOUNTERED DUE TO THE CURING PERIOD REQUIRED.
