CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF THE FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE

THIS THESIS COMPRISES FIVE PARTS AS FOLLOWS: (1) DEVELOPMENT OF AN EXPERIMENTAL METHOD OF SINUSOIDAL BENDING UNDER INDUCED DEFORMATION, (2) DEVELOPMENT OF A METHOD OF STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF RESULTS WHICH TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE PROBABILISTIC NATURE OF FATIGUE PHENOMENA AND MATERIAL HETEROGENEITY WITH A VIEW TO FACILITATING A CORRELATION STUDY AND VARIANCE ANALYSIS OF THE FACTORS STUDIED, (3) APPLICATION OF THESE METHODS TO THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE TAKEN FROM CARRIAGEWAYS OR PREPARED IN THE LABORATORY, (4) APPLICATION OF THE PROT TEST METHOD FOR DEFINING THE FATIGUE LIMIT OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES, AND (5) APPLICATION OF THE SAME METHOD TO THE STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOR OF THE MIXTURE UNDER PROGRESSIVE LOADING IN CORRELATION WITH OTHER CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS COMPACTION, RIGIDITY MODULUS, ETC. /IRRD-IRF/
