MODIFIED PROPOSALS FOR CONTROLLING DEFLECTIONS BY MEANS OF RATIOS OF SPAN TO EFFECTIVE DEPTH

A METHOD IS DERIVED OF CONTROLLING DEFLECTIONS IN THE DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS BY USING RATIOS OF SPAN TO EFFECTIVE DEPTH. THE PROPOSED METHOD IS A DEVELOPMENT OF THAT GIVEN IN THE DRAFT CODE OF PRACTICE FOR THE STRUCTURAL USE OF CONCRETE, WHICH WAS CIRCULATED FOR COMMENT IN SEPTEMBER 1969. IT IS SHOWN HOW MORE RECENT RESEARCH HAS PERMITTED CONSIDERABLE SIMPLIFICATION OF THE ORIGINAL PROPOSALS WHILE INCREASING THEIR GENERAL ACCURACY. /AUTHOR/
