AN INVESTIGATION OF CRACKING ON THE SIDE FACES OF BEAMS

THE REPORT DESCRIBES TESTS CARRIED OUT ON FIVE 750 MM T-BEAMS. THE BEAMS WERE TESTED PRIMARILY TO CHECK THE VALIDITY OF (1) THE THEORY, AND (2) THE FORMULAE EVOLVED FOR PREDICTING CRACKING WIDTHS AND SPACINGS, DERIVED FROM TESTS ON SLABS AND RECTANGULAR BEAMS, WHEN APPLIED TO CRACKING ON THE SIDES OF BEAMS AT POINTS WELL AWAY FROM THE TENSION STEEL. SOME STUDIES WERE ALSO MADE OF THE INFLUENCE OF STIRRUPS AND LONGITUDINAL ANTI-CRACK BARS IN CONTROLLING CRACKING ON THE SIDE FACES OF BEAMS. /AUTHOR/
