IMPLEMENTATION PACKAGE FOR THE PREDICTION OF CREEP AND SHRINKAGE OF HAWAIIAN AGGREGATE CONCRETE

IN A PROGRAM TO GATHER EXPERIMENTAL DATA WHICH WILL BE DIRECTLY APPLICABLE TO CURRENT DESIGN PROCEDURES, STANDARD SIX INCH DIAMETER CYLINDERS HAVE BEEN TESTED IN UNIAXIAL COMPRESSION AT CONSTANT STRESS TO DETERMINE THE TIME DEPENDENT BEHAVIOR OF HAWAIIAN AGGREGATE CONCRETE. EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES FOR ACQUIRING CREEP DATA ARE PRESENTED. AN EXPLANATION OF THE PHENOMENON IS GIVEN AND A MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSION FOR CREEP IS DEVELOPED. FACTORS WHICH INFLUENCE CREEP, THE CORRECTION FACTORS FOR AMBIENT RELATIVE HUMIDITY, FOR MINIMUM THICKNESS OF MEMBER FOR SLUMP, FOR FINE AGGREGATES, FOR CEMENT CONTENT, AND FOR AIR CONTENT ARE DISCUSSED. SHRINKAGE WHICH IS CONSIDERED TO BE A PHYSICAL PROCESS INDEPENDENT OF CREEP, IS CAUSED PRIMARILY BY DRYING OF THE FREE WATER IN CONCRETE. A MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSION FOR SHRINKAGE IS DERIVED AND CORRECTION FACTORS FOR AMBIENT RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AGE FROM WHICH SHRINKAGE IS CONSIDERED, MINIMUM THICKNESS OF MEMBER, SLUMP, PERCENTAGE OF FINE AGGREGATES, CEMENT CONTENT AND AIR CONTENT ARE CONSIDERED. A METHOD OF PREDICTING CREEP AND SHRINKAGE OF HAWAIIAN AGGREGATE CODNCRETE IS GIVEN AND EXAMPLES DEMONSTRATING THE PROCEDURE ARE PRESENTED.
