SAKONNET RIVER BRIDGE-BRIDGE DECK DETERIORATION STUDY

A 36-INCH LONG COPPER SULFATE REFERENCE CELL, A BATTERY-OPERATED VOLT-OHM-METER, AND TWO REELS OF WIRE WERE EMPLOYED TO DETERMINE THE LOCATION OF ACTIVE CORROSION IN THE REINFORCED CONCRETE AND I-BEAM-LOK DECK, AS WELL AS THE EXTENT AND DEGREE OF CHLORIDE INTRUSION INTO THE CONCRETE. THESE TWO AIMS WERE MET BY THE NONDESTRUCTIVE SYSTEM CHOSEN. THE TEST RESULTS ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED, AND CERTAIN CONCLUSIONS. ARE DRAWN. THE QUESTION OF TOTAL RESTORATION OF SEVERELY DETERIORATED BRIDGE DECKS IS ADDRESSED.
