Projects with high strength and high performance concrete

(A). English abstract: The use of high strength concretes has become simplified in recent years. The reasons for this are the use of micro silica and the appearance of new superfluidifiers. Other properties are also being improved, in addition to strength, such as laying and durability, which is why the term "high performance concretes" is now tending to be used. This is the case with different segment bridges made from selfcompacting concretes or the concretes used for tunnel segments with a strength of over 1000 kg/cm2. In the case of the Tilos Arch Bridge (La Palma Island, Canaries), an HA-75 high strength concrete was used in order to reduce the weight of the structure during the advance of the free cantilever. However, the particularly special feature of this concrete was the need to utilise the materials available on this tiny island. Owing to the fact that the section to be concreted was designed with a wall thickness of only 20 cm, a highly fluid concrete had to be achieved. A particular design feature of these concretes is their low creep ratio. (A).
