EDITING OF DIGITAL DATA IN THE AUTOMATED CARTOGRAPHY SYSTEM AT U.A. ARMY ENGINEER TOPOGRAPHIC LABORATORIES

THE MAN-MACHINE INTERACTIVE CRT MAP EDITING EQUIPMENT BEING DEVELOPED AT THE ENGINEER TOPOGRAPHIC LABORATORIES FOR EDITING DIGITIZED MAP DATA IN THE AUTOMATED CARTOGRAPHY SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED WITH EMPHASIS ON HARDWARE, SOFTWARE, AND DATA FILE STRUCTURE REQUIREMENTS. INITIAL DEVELOPMENTS ON A MINIMUM PROTOTYPE SYSTEM USING A BENDIX DATAGRID AND A DIRECT VIEW STORAGE CRT DISPLAY INTERFACED TO AN XDS-930 COMPUTER ARE DISCUSSED. DETAILS ARE PRESENTED OF THE ADVANCED EDITING SYSTEM NOW BEING DEVELOPED THAT WILL CONSIST OF A SOPHISTICATED MINICOMPUTER CONTROLLER, A DATAGRID, AND BOTH A REFRESH AND A STORAGE CRT DISPLAY. MAJOR FUNCTIONS OF THE COMPONENTS ARE OUTLINED TO SHOW PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS AND REQUIREMENTS. DATA FLOW IN THE AUTOMATED CARTOGRAPHY SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE OPERATIONS FOR EDITING ARE SUMMARIZED TO SHOW THE ESSENCE OF THE EDITING OPERATIONS. /AUTHOR/
