ADVANCED SYSTEMS FOR DATA EXCHANGE--TUTORIAL SESSION "A"

THE TASK FORCE ON ADVANCED SYSTEMS FOR DATA EXCHANGE OF THE TRANSPORTATION DATA COORDINATING COMMITTEE IS NOW WORKING ON A SYSTEM TO PROMOTE COMPANY TO COMPANY INFORMATION SYSTEMS. IT IS COMPRISED OF THIRTY FIVE DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING TO FACILITATE INDIVIDUAL COMPANY SAVINGS IN TRANSPORTATION ADMINISTRATIVE TRANSACTIONS BETWEEN SHIPPERS AND CARRIERS OF ALL MODES, TO SIMPLIFY DOCUMENTATION AND DATA FLOW, TO STANDARDIZE CONTENT AND FORM OF INFORMATION AND TO ACHIEVE CORPORATE LEVEL SYSTEMS APPLICATION FOR DATA EXCHANGE OF A SIGNIFICANT SCOPE TO REALIZE AND DEMONSTRATE THE FULL BENEFITS OF SUCH A SYSTEM. THE MAJOR PROBLEM THEY FOUND WAS TO THE RELATIVE OBSCURITY OF THE IDEA. HOWEVER, AN OPERATING GROUP OF THE TASK FORCE HAS ALREADY BEEN EXPLORING THE OVERALL PLAN FOR A LONG TERM BASIS. THE PLAN WILL PERSENT ALTERNATIVES FOR INDUSTRY AND GOVERNMENT PARTICIPATION. FULL COOPERATION IS NEEDED FOR THE PLAN TO REALIZE ITS POTENTIAL.
