UNITED STATES TRANSPORTATION CARGO DATA INTERCHANGE SYSTEM

THE PAPERWORK INVOLVED IN TRANSPORTATION IS UNNECESSARILY EXTENSIVE AND EXPENSIVE. OUT OF THE LACK OF CORRIDNATION AND STANDARDIZATION OF DOCUMENTATION THE TRANSPORTATION DATA COORDINATING COMMITTEE CAME TO BE. A JOINT EFFORT OF TDCC AND DOT HAS PRODUCED A HARMONIZED COMMODITY DESCRIPTION CODE IN ORDER TO BRIDGE THE DIVERSITY OF SYSTEMS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. TDCC AND DOT ARE ALSO WORKING ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE UNITED STATES TRANSPORTATION CARGO DATA INTERCHANGE SYSTEM. THE CARDIS PROGRAM IS BEING DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF SHIPPERS, CARRIERS, FREIGHT FORWARDERS, IMPORTERS, BROKERS, AGENTS, BANKERS, INSURANCE UNDERWRITERS AND OTHERS IN THE TRANSPORTATION COMMUNITY. ITS PURPOSE IS TO SPEED THE FLOW OF DATA COVERING DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRANSACTIONS IN THE MOSE EXPEDITIOUS AND ECONOMICAL MANNER. THERE WILL BE DATA INTERCHANGE SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES OPERATED BY THE PRIVATE SECTOR UNDER CONTROL OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THEY WILL BE ON LINE WITH EACH OTHER AND WITH FOREIGN CENTERS. THERE IS ALSO A PROGRAM DEVELOPING INVOLVING TRANSPORTATION FREIGHT TARIFF SYSTEMS.
