COMPUTERIZED WAYBILL INFORMATION SYSTEM (RWC)

THE REPETITIVE WAYBILL CODE (RWC) CONCEPT IS BASED ON THE FACT THAT MOST RAIL SHIPMENTS RECUR IN TIME AND THE DATA USED IS, THEREFORE, ALSO REPETITIVE. THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM WOULD INVOLVE GATHERING ALL THE STATIC DATA ON EACH SHIPMENT AND STORING IT WITH A UNIQUE CODE IDENTIFYING ALL OF ITS REPETITIVE CHARACTERISTICS. WHEN THE SHIPMENT IS READY TO MOVE, AN INDEX WOULD BE SEARCHED FOR THE RWC TO USE. THE RWC, AND OTHER VARIABLE INFORMATION, WOULD THEN BE PUT INTO A COMPUTER TERMINAL WHICH PRODUCES THE INFORMATION TO MOVE THE CAR QUICKLY, INCLUDING HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS, INVOICES AND COMPUTER WAY BILLS. FOR THE CARRIERS THE RWC CONCEPT WOULD, IN ONE STEP, INPUT ALL THE INFORMATION NECESSARY TO MOVE THE CARS QUICKLY, COMPUTER RATE MOST SHIPMENTS, GENERATE CUSTOMER STATEMENTS AND ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE CONTROLS, AND IMPROVE CUSTOMER RELATIONS BY HAVING INFORMATION READILY AVAILABLE. THE CUSTOMER WOULD BENEFIT BY FASTER AND EASIER RELEASE OF SHIPMENTS, SIMPLIFICATION OF ACCOUNTS AND MORE COMPLETE COST INFORMATION, MORE ACCURATE AND SPEEDER HANDLING AND THE BASIS FOR MORE SOPHISTICATED INTERFACES.
