HUMAN FACTORS AND DISPERSED AUTOMATION ONBOARD SHIPS

The paper deals with the problem of ship system integration and whether human operators can conveniently be interfaced under determined situations of risk, condition of error minimization and required performance optimization. With reference to a realistic control loop closure, the human controller is evaluated along the three operation phases: surveillance, decision making, and control action. Alternate solutions, other than the traditional full-entrustment to human operators are presented and discussed. Order from NSFI as No. 17214.
