SAFETY AND SERVICEABILITY PROVISIONS IN THE ACI BUILDING CODE

The development of the safety provisions of the ACI Building Code is traced through the four most recent editions, since 1956, with special emphasis on the present load and resistance factor (LRF) format and its relation to more rigorous probabilistic approaches to structural safety. Serviceability provisions regarding cracking and deflections at service loads and their background are also discussed. /Author/
