PROGRESS WITH RESEARCH IN PHOTOGRAMMETRIC TECHNOLOGY IN NEW SOUTH WALES FOR ROAD LOCATION, PLANNING AND DESIGN PURPOSES

METHODS OF OBTAINING BOTH DIGITAL AND GRAPHICAL DATA ARE DESCRIBED, TOGETHER WITH THE USE OF DATAPLOTTERS, ELECTRONIC COMPUTERS, ORTHOPHOTOGRAPHY, AND ANALYTICAL PLOTTERS FOR HIGHWAY LOCATION AND DESIGN. AVENUES OF RESEARCH ARE EXPLORED INTO USES OF CONTROL TARGETS, OPERATIONAL AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY, AND A TEST FIELD TO CHECK THE PRECISION OF PHOTOGRAMMETRIC OBSERVATIONS. METHODS OF AERIAL TRIANGULATION OBSERVATION AND ADJUSTMENT ARE DESCRIBED, INCLUDING THE POSIBLE USE OF AUXILIARY AIRBORNE INSTRUMENTS AND POINT TRANSFER DEVICES. A DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS OF EXPERIMENTS IN OBTAINING A CONTOUR PLAN FROM A DATAPLOTTER, USING DIGITAL TERRAIN MODEL OBSERVATIONS IN A PHOTOGRAMMETRIC PLOTTER OVER RURAL AND URBAN TERRAIN. /AUTHOR/
