LUIS - MAP INFORMATION STORAGE, MANIPULATION, RETRIEVAL AND DISPLAY SYSTEM

A PACKAGE OF FORTRAN IV COMPUTER PROGRAMS WAS WRITTEN TO EXTRACT AND PORTRAY MAP DATA SO THEY ARE READILY AVAILABLE IN VARIOUS FORMS FOR THE RESOURCE PLANNER. THE LAND USE INFORMATION SYSTEM (LUIS) ACCEPTS CODED MAP DATA FROM ANY TYPE OF SOURCE MAP OR FROM SEVERAL SOURCE MAPS OR AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS. A CONVENTIONAL DOT GRID PROVIDED INFORMATION POINTS TO WHICH ITEMS OR MAP INFORMATION CAN BE ATTACHED. AMONG OTHER THINGS THE SYSTEM CAN PERFORM THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS: (1) COMPUTE THE AREA AND PERIMETER OF ALL DISCRETE LAND UNITS AND TOTAL THEM IN VARIOUS WAYS; (2) COMPUTE WATER FRONTAGE FOR LAKES, RIVERS AND STREAMS; (3) COMPUTE ROAD FRONTAGE; (4) RETRIEVE DISCRETE LAND UNITS WITH VARIOUS RESTRICTIONS SUCK AS SIZE, LOCATION, OR JUXTAPOSITION TO ORADS, BUILDINGS, WATER OR LAND UNITS OF ANY SPECIFIED TYPE; (5) THE RETRIEVED LAND UNITS CAN BE DISPLAYED IN COMPUTER MAP FORM; (6) CHANGES IN LAND USE BETWEEN TWO OR MORE TIME PERIODS CAN BE ANALYZED AND THE RESULTS PORTRAYED IN TABLE OR MAP FORM. /AUTHOR/
