ORTHOPHOTOMAPPING OF TIDEWATER TERRIN

MULTICOVERAGE PHOTOGRAPHY WAS PLANNED TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE PHOTOIMAGERY FOR PRODUCTION-LINE MAPPING OF AN AREA THAT INCLUDED AN EXTENSIVE URBAN AREA AS WELL AS TIDEWATER TERRAIN. PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN AT A FLIGHT HEIGHT OF 18,000 FEET WITH A 12-INCH CAMERA WERE USED TO PREPARE THE ORTHOPHOTOMOSAICS, SUPPLEMENTED BY ADDITIONAL 12-INCH PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN WITHIN ONE HOUR OF LOW TIDE ALONG THE COASTAL AREAS TO RECORD FORESHORE DETAIL. SUPER-WIDE-ANGLE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN AT 6,000 FEET FOR STEREOCONTOURING OF THE TOTAL AREA. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN MATCHING PHOTOGRAPHIC TONES BETWEEN SEGMENTS OF THE MOSAIC ASSEMBLIES WERE EVENTUALLY SOLVED. TERRAIN DETAIL WAS CLASSIFIED IN THE FIELD AND RECORDED ON PRINTS OF THE PHOTOIMAGE BASES FOR THE PREPARATION OF COLOR-SEPARATION GUIDES. CONTOURS WERE COMPILED FROM THE SUPER-WIDE-ANGLE PHOTOGRAPHS ON MULTICOLOR PRINTS MADE FROM THE COLOR- SEPARATION GUIDES. SINGLE-LINE SYMBOLIZATION WAS USED TO CLARIFY ROAD AND STREET DETAIL. A COLOR CODE SYSTEM WAS DEVISED FOR SELECTION OF COLORS FOR FINAL REPRODUCTION. /AUTHOR/
