HORIZONTAL POSITION ADJUSTMENT

A LEAST SQUARES OBSERVATION EQUATION METHOD IS PRESENTED FOR ADJUSTING VARIOUS TYPES OF PLANE HORIZONTAL CONTROL SURVEYS. APPLICATION OF THE METHOD TO RESECTION, INTERSECTION, TRIANGULATION, TRILATERATION AND TRANSVERSE SURVEYS ARE EACH CONSIDERED BRIEFLY. THE SUBJECT OF WEIGHTED OBSERVATIONS IS DISCUSSED, AND A NOMOGRAPH IS INCLUDED FOR SELECTING RELATIVE INVERSE WEIGHT NUMBERS FOR ANGLE AND DISTANCE MEASUREMENTS. MATRIX EQUATIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR BOTH THE UNWEIGHTED AND WEIGHTED CASES. /AUTHOR/
