SOME PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF PRODUCING MAPS IN COLOR

A NUMBER OF IMPROVED TECHNIQUES ARE DESCRIBED WHICH ARE APPLICABLE TO THE PRODUCTION OF MAPS HAVING EXTENSIVE AREAS OF COLOR THROUGH THE UTILIZATION OF OPEN-WINDOW NEGATIVES AND CONTACT SCREENS. THESE INCLUDE: METHODS OF HAND COLORING MAP MANUSCRIPTS SO THAT THEY WILL LOOK MORE LIKE THE FINAL PRINTED MAP, THE PRODUCTION AND USE OF A COLOR CHART WHICH SEPARATES THE COLOR SELECTION AND COLOR ANALYSIS FUNCTIONS, THE USE OF COLOR ANALYSIS TO ECONOMIZE ON THE NUMBER OF OPEN-WINDOW NEGATIVES REQUIRED, COMPOSITING OPEN-WINDOW NEGATIVES ON FILM RATHER THAN DIRECTLY ON PRINTING PLATES, AND THE PRINTING OF LINES AND TINTS USING THE SAME COLOR INK. /AUTHOR/
