PHOTOGRAMMETRY IN HIGHWAY PLANNING

PHOTOGRAMMETRY IS USEFUL IN PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR HIGHWAY PLANNING. PHOTOGRAMMETRY IS USED IN CONNECTICUT TO DETERMINE AND WEIGH ALTERNATE LINES, AND FOR TRANSMITTING THE RECOMMENDED SCHEMATIC LAYOUT FOR PROCESSING THROUGH THE SURVEY AND DESIGN STAGES. IT IS USED AS A BASE FOR PORTRAYING PROPOSED HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS AT PUBLIC HEARINGS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL AND STATE STATUTES. CAREFULLY ENGINEERED SCHEMATIC LAYOUTS OBTAINED BY PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND PREPARED FOR VARIOUS ALTERNATES SERVES AS A BASIS FOR DISCUSSION OF THE SEVERAL ALTERNATES: (1) WITH THE SEVERAL LEVELS OF DECISION WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT, (2) WITH OTHER AFFECTED AGENCIES OF THE STATE, (3) WITH LOCAL PUBLIC AND/OR SEMIPUBLIC AGENCIES, AND (4) WITH THE BUREAU OF PUBLIC ROADS. AFTER STUDY OF THE SEVERAL ALTERNATES, DECISION IS REACHED AS TO THE GENERAL LINE LOCATION.
