AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTOGRAMMETRY IN GEORGIA

THE ORGANIZATION OF AND THE EQUIPMENT PURCHASED FOR AN AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT IN GEORGIA ARE DESCRIBED. THE NUMBERING, CODING AND FILLING SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED. A PHOTOGRAMMETRIC SYSTEM WAS ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF PHOTOGRAMMETRIC MAPPING, LAYOUTS, COMPUTATIONS, AND TRACING. ALL CONTROLS ARE BY GROUND METHODS. THE EQUIPMENT FOR GROUND CONTROLS IS DESCRIDED. AERIAL RECONNAISSANCE IS CONSIDERED THE MOST IMPORTANT PHASE OF LOCATION AND DESIGN OF THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT OF ANY HIGHWAY. THE IMPORTANT FACTORS IN THE SELECTION OF THE FINAL ROUTE ARE: (1) SERVICE TO TRAFFIC, POPULATIONS, AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS, (2) DIRECTNESS, (3) TYPE OF TERRAIN, (4) INTERCHANGE OF MAIN HIGHWAYS, AND (5) STREAM AND RAILROAD CROSSINGS. PRINTS OF THE PROPOSED LOCATION ARE FURNISHED TO THE FIELD PARTIES FOR STAKING OUT THE CENTERLINE. TOPOGRAPHIC SHEETS SHOWING ALIGNMENT, COORDINATE POINTS OF INTERSECTIONS, DELTA ANGLES, DEGREE OF CURVATURE, BEARING OF LINES, BENCH MARKS, OTHER PERMANENT MARKERS, AND STATIONING OF DRAINAGE STRUCTURES ARE FURNISHED FOR THE DESIGN DEPARTMENT WITH ALL FIELD NOTES, DRAINAGE MAPS, AND PROPERTY LINE MAPS.
