UNIVERSAL STEREOMETRIC SYSTEMS

EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS TO ASSESS THE POTENTIALITIES OF THE STEREOMETRIC SYSTEMS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MEASUREMENT OF DEFORMATIONS OF STRUCTURAL MODELS UNDER TEST CONDITIONS. SOME OF THE MAJOR FACTORS THAT LIMIT THE PRECISION AND CAPABILITIES OF CURRENT STEREOMETRIC CAMERAS HAVE BEEN DETERMINED. IN THE LIGHT OF THE RESULTS OF EXPERIMENTAL TESTS AND THEORETICAL INVESTIGATIONS, DEFINITE MODIFICATIONS IN THE CLASSICAL STEREOMETRIC APPROACHES ARE NEEDED TO ENHANCE THE PRECISION OF SUCH SYSTEMS TO MEET THE HIGH LEVEL OF ACCURACY GENERALLY REQUIRED IN STRUCTURAL EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH, QUALITY CONTROL, AND IN SEVERAL OTHER ENGINEERING AND SCIENTIFIC FIELDS. /AUTHOR/
